Best for art: Old Town Farm & Art Market

Really, the title says it all: farm and art, what more could you want?

Not only is this amazing farmers market located in Old Town—one of the coolest spots in Wichita—but it also features wonderful, local artisans.

Frankly, if you need to buy someone a gift or are looking for a lil’ retail therapy, this farmers market is the spot for you. Wichita is home to so many creatives, and this is where they all flock! Three Sisters Teas and Treasures sells beautiful candles in found objects, while MIMS sells living jewelry (yes, there are plants in those earrings). Other vendors sell visual art, pottery, handmade stuffed animals, and more.

Old Town also hosts plenty of produce and food-based vendors as well. Meadowlark Farm Orchard and Cidery is a personal favorite of mine. (That cider is so freaking delicious.) And Orie’s Farm Fresh is perhaps one of the most iconic Wichita farms! (The best garlic in town.)

Plus, this market brings fresh baked goods, homemade wines, and other fun brews. It truly has it all!

So, next Saturday, it’s time to high tail it to Old Town! They’re open from 8 AM – 1 PM in the summer, while the indoor fall market is open from 10 AM – 2 PM.

Best for produce: Kansas Grown Farmers Market

Kansas Grown Farmers Market is the biggest farmers market in all of Kansas. In fact, there are over 100 vendors who sell at their locations! So, you know you’ll be able to find something for you and all your loved ones there.

In my opinion, Kansas Grown is best for all your organic and produce needs. There are so many local growers and farms who sell here, including Bee Farm Fresh, an organic farm run by an old friend of mine. Plus, you can’t go wrong with Four Sisters Lavender Farm. Lavender bunches, lavender soaps, dried lavender, lavender everything!!

And if any of you are looking to up your garden game this summer, I highly recommend checking out Hesston Plant Co. Their greenhouses are full of gorgeous flowers and greenery that you’ll be itching to take home with you.

Though I’d normally flock to Old Town for arts and crafts, there are some vendors at Kansas Grown who deserve a mention. For one, Magnolia Jane Originals creates eco-friendly glassware with quirky designs that you’re sure to love. Plus, there’s Raingarden Press, a family business that designs and screen-prints their own t-shirts.

So worth a visit. If you want the pick of the market (especially for produce), set your alarm and get there at 7 AM. As they say, the early bird gets the worm!

Kansas Grown is open on Saturdays from 7 AM – 12 PM with their final market in October.

Special Mentions

I know two farmers markets may not be enough for y’all, so here are some in the surrounding area. Enjoy!

Best for jewelry: Haysville Hometown Market

Now, the Haysville Hometown Market isn’t in Wichita, but it’s only 15-20 minutes away. Call it a road trip and pack those kiddos in the car!

This market is smaller than Kansas Grown and Old Town, but size doesn’t matter! There are still gems to be found, such as The Missing Link, featuring super cool, chainmail jewelry.

Haysville Hometown Market is open every Saturday from 8 AM – 12 PM, so let the sunshine in!

Best for community: Kechi Farmers Market

The Kechi Farmers Market is even closer to Wichita than Haysville Hometown, so I promise the drive will be worth it!

This small-town market takes place in the parking lot of the Kechi United Methodist Church. It features local vendors and artisans who, I kid you not, will be so grateful to see you there. Truly one of those places that makes my heart go pitter-patter.

You’ll be sure to find some quaint, smaller vendors in Kechi, too. But never fear! Some of the Kansas farmers market classics will be there as well, like Meadowlark Orchard and Magnolia Jane Originals.

The Kechi Farmers Market meets on Thursdays from 4 – 6:30 PM… A nice complement to all the weekend hours found at most other markets.

Best for nature: Bartlett Arboretum

Okay, okay, you caught me. The Bartlett Arboretum doesn’t technically host a farmers market, but if you plan well enough, you can still snag some goodies.

Head on down to Belle Plaine for a concert on the lawn of the Arboretum. There’ll be food trucks and tables set up for all arboretum goods, including CDs, t-shirts, poetry books, and more.

And if you’re a tree lover—even better! It’s a little slice of heaven located in a town of 1200. Who would’ve thunk?
